Earth Day Celebrations: Earth Day History
Earth Day is a special day that people celebrate every year on April 22nd to show their love and care for our planet. It all started in 1970, when a U.S. senator named Gaylord Nelson wanted to raise awareness about environmental issues and make people understand the importance of protecting our Earth. He organized a big event where people from all over the country came together to talk about ways to take care of the planet.
At the time, many people were worried about pollution and other environmental problems. They wanted to make sure that the Earth would still be a healthy and beautiful place for future generations to enjoy. The event was a success and over 20 million people participated in the first Earth Day event!
Since then, Earth Day has become a global event, and people all around the world celebrate it by planting trees, picking up trash, and spreading the word about how to protect the planet. Even though we are small, we can make a big difference if we work together to take care of our planet. What will you do on Earth Day?

Tips on How the Family can Care for The Earth
Caring for the Earth as a family can be a rewarding and impactful endeavor. Here are some tips to help your family contribute to environmental conservation:

- Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Teach your family about the importance of reducing waste, reusing items whenever possible, and recycling materials like paper, plastic, glass, and metal.
- Conserve Energy: Encourage your family to turn off lights, unplug electronics when not in use, use energy-efficient appliances, and consider installing solar panels if feasible.
- Save Water: Teach your family members to conserve water by fixing leaks, taking shorter showers, using water-saving appliances and fixtures, and watering plants efficiently.
- Minimize Single-Use Items: Reduce the use of single-use plastics and disposable items such as plastic bags, straws, and utensils. Opt for reusable alternatives like cloth bags, metal straws, and bamboo utensils.
- Practice Sustainable Transportation: Encourage walking, biking, carpooling, or using public transportation instead of driving solo. Consider purchasing fuel-efficient or electric vehicles if possible.
- Grow Your Own Food: Start a own garden to grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs. This reduces the carbon footprint associated with food transportation and promotes healthier eating habits.
- Support Local and Sustainable Products: Purchase goods from local farmers’ markets, artisans, and businesses that prioritize sustainability and eco-friendly practices.
- Educate and Advocate: Teach your family about environmental issues, wildlife conservation, and the importance of protecting natural habitats. Encourage them to participate in community clean-up events and advocate for policies that promote environmental protection.
- Connect with Nature: Spend time outdoors as a family, whether it’s hiking, camping, nature walk, or simply enjoying a picnic in a park. Foster a deep appreciation and respect for the planet earth.
- Lead by Example: Set a positive example for your family by adopting environmentally friendly habits yourself. Children often learn best through observation and imitation. Find a fun way of enjoying outdoor life and give a positive example on how to actually enjoy outdoor life.
- Reduce Meat Consumption: Encourage your family to reduce meat consumption or participate in meatless meals several times a week. Animal agriculture is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and deforestation.
- Participate in Conservation Efforts: Get involved in local conservation initiatives, such as tree planting, beach clean-ups, or wildlife habitat restoration projects.
By implementing these tips, your young children can make a meaningful difference in caring for the Earth and preserving it for future generations.
In the Beginning Everything was GOOD!
In Genesis 1:1-4, it says: In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.
Further it says in Genesis 1:31: Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good. So the evening and the morning were the sixth day.
“Adam was surrounded with everything his heart could wish. Every want was supplied. There were no sin and no signs of decay in glorious Eden. Angels of God conversed freely and lovingly with the holy pair. The happy songsters caroled forth their free, joyous songs of praise to their Creator. The peaceful beasts in happy innocence played about Adam and Eve, obedient to their word. Adam was in the perfection of manhood, the noblest of the Creator’s work”. – The Adventist Home p.26.3 (Ellen Gould White).
In other words, everything that God made was VERY GOOD! God made the Earth perfect. But something happened, which was not part of Gods plan.
“In the midst of the garden, near the tree of life, stood the tree of knowledge of good and evil. This tree was especially designed of God to be the pledge of their obedience, faith and love to him. Of this tree the Lord commanded our first parents not to eat, neither to touch it, lest they die. He told them that they might freely eat of all the trees in the garden except one; but if they ate of that tree they should surely die.” – The Spirit of Prophecy, vol. 1, p. 27.1 (Ellen Gould White).

“When Adam and Eve were placed in the beautiful garden, they had everything for their happiness which they could desire. But he chose, in his all-wise arrangements, to test their loyalty before they could be rendered eternally secure. They were to have his favor, and he was to converse with them, and they with him. Yet he did not place evil out of their reach. Satan was permitted to tempt them. If they endured the trial, they were to be in perpetual favor with God and the heavenly angels.” -Spirit of Prophecy, vol.1, p.27.2 (Ellen Gould White).
Interestingly enough there are other worlds that have not fallen: “The Lord has given me a view of other worlds. Wings were given me, and an angel attended me from the city to a place that was bright and glorious. The grass of the place was living green, and the birds there warbled a sweet song. The inhabitants of the place were of all sizes; they were noble, majestic, and lovely. They bore the express image of Jesus, and their countenances beamed with holy joy, expressive of the freedom and happiness of the place. I asked one of them why they were so much more lovely than those on the earth. The reply was, “We have lived in strict obedience to the commandments of God, and have not fallen by disobedience, like those on the earth.” … I begged of my attending angel to let me remain in that place. I could not bear the thought of coming back to this dark world again. Then the angel said, “You must go back, and if you are faithful, you, with the 144,000, shall have the privilege of visiting all the worlds and viewing the handiwork of God.” -The Adventist Home p.543.2 (Ellen Gould White).
Jesus explains in Matthew 13:24-30 why our Earth is not good anymore: “Another parable He put forth to them, saying: “The kingdom of heaven is like a man who sowed good seed in his field; but while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat and went his way. But when the grain had sprouted and produced a crop, then the tares also appeared. So the servants of the owner came and said to him, ‘Sir, did you not sow good seed in your field? How then does it have tares?’ He said to them, ‘An enemy has done this.’ The servants said to him, ‘Do you want us then to go and gather them up?’ But he said, ‘No, lest while you gather up the tares you also uproot the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest, and at the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, “First gather together the tares and bind them in bundles to burn them, but gather the wheat into my barn.” ’ ”
