Ocean Animal Craft: Fun Whale Crafts
Creating a Whale Craft for preschoolers can be a fun and educational activity. Here’s a simple and engaging whale craft idea:
Materials:
- Blue construction paper or cardstock
- White construction paper
- Googly eyes
- Glue
- Scissors
- Black marker
- Blue or green tissue paper (optional)
Instructions:
- Cutting:
- From the blue construction paper, cut out a large whale body shape. You can make it a simple oval or use a template if needed.
- Cut out a smaller whale tail from the blue paper.
- Cut a white oval shape for the whale’s belly.
- Assembling:
- Glue the white oval onto the center of the blue whale body to create the whale’s belly.
- Attach the tail to the back of the whale body using glue.
- Decorating:
- Glue one googly eye onto each side of the whale’s face. If you don’t have googly eyes, you can draw eyes with a black marker.
- Optional: Cut small squares or rectangles from blue or green tissue paper to create water spouts or waves. Glue them around the whale for added decoration.
- Finishing Touches:
- Use a black marker to draw a smiling mouth on the whale.
- If you like, you can add other details like water bubbles or seaweed using the marker or additional paper.
- Display:
- Once the glue is dry, you can display the whale crafts on a bulletin board, wall, or create an underwater scene by adding more sea creatures and elements.
This whale craft not only helps preschoolers develop their fine motor skills but also introduces the whale lovers to basic shapes and encourages creativity. Additionally, you can incorporate a short lesson about whales and the ocean while doing the craft to make it both entertaining and educational.
The Story of Jonah
A simple story that you can share with your kids is the story of Jonah from the Bible. I have read this story many times for my children. This is a fascinating story. At first, Jonah did not want to obey God, which led him into many troubles. Later, because he decided to obey God, a whole city was saved from destruction. Also, if Jonah had obeyed God in the first place, maybe he did not have to end up in the sea and in the whale (by the way, in the Bible, it says great fish, not whale).
When I read this story to one of my children, my boy asked me how Jonah could breath inside the whale. I had never thought about this, and found it to be a very interesting question. This is one of the reasons I love being around kids, they are smart and have a fun way of looking at things that we grown ups don’t always see.
