12 Pumpkin Math Activities for Kindergarten + Printable Worksheets

The fall season has arrived, with pumpkins and trees full of colorful leaves. God is good, and nature is beautiful!

In this blog post, I will share a few pumpkin activities that you can do with your kindergarten students. If you are a home gardener like me, you might also have a pumpkin patch where the kids can see real pumpkins, touch them, and hold them in their hands.

Otherwise, you can buy pumpkins at your nearest grocery store or show your children pictures and videos of pumpkins. The important thing is that little learners understand what pumpkins are and can use the pumpkin printables to enhance their math skills in a fun way.

Make Math Stick Using Pumpkins Your Students Can Touch

As I mentioned above, a great way to teach young children is to let them explore a real pumpkin that they can touch. A hands-on activity allows children to use multiple senses to learn. They often love this kind of learning, where they can touch, smell, experiment, and see things for themselves.

During fall, when children and families usually spend more time indoors than they do in summer, it is a perfect time to explore math using this pumpkin unit.

In our garden, we have two greenhouses. In one of them, we grow only pumpkins and different kinds of squash. We have used our own pumpkins for many things, including cooking, decorating, and crafts. Pumpkins are so much fun to look at because they come in different sizes, colors, and shapes. God shows His love and creativity in so many ways, right in front of us. All of this brings us joy and happiness!

Another fun pumpkin craft idea is to carve a real pumpkin with a mouth and eyes to display outside your home. These decorations are fun to make, and we are planning to make one very soon. This also gives children an opportunity to see and touch the pumpkin seeds and learn to recognize them. Pumpkin seeds are quite large compared with many other seeds, making them easy to observe. You can also encourage your children to count the number of seeds just for fun!

After printing out the pumpkin worksheets, you can sit down with your child and explore different math concepts together, choosing the worksheets you like best. I hope you have a great time using them together as your child develops fine motor skills and learns through hands-on activities.

This pumpkin unit includes 12 math activity pages designed for children ages 5–7. These pumpkin-themed fall activities help young learners practice counting, addition, subtraction, number patterns, and more.

The worksheets have a clear, simple layout, but an adult should be nearby to guide the child through the activities. Some exercises require reading, and others may need a little extra explanation or a demonstration before the child begins.

Your presence can mean so much to your child. As their loving parent, you can offer encouragement, celebrate small achievements, and help them feel confident as they explore new math concepts. These activities also give you a lovely opportunity to spend time learning together.

What’s Included in the Pumpkin Math Pack (Ages 5–7):

Pumpkin Math Your Kindergarteners Will Beg to Do Again

Children love to use their creativity. In our family, we have young little learners who absolutely love to draw, color, and create. I imagine many of your children enjoy these things too! Hands-on activities give them opportunities to explore new ideas, experiment with different materials, and express themselves in their own way. Sometimes, a few simple supplies are all they need to get their imaginations going.

Using this math pack in small groups can encourage children to learn and explore together. They can inspire one another, share ideas, and enjoy practicing number recognition and working through addition problems. You can invite them to explain how they found an answer or show a friend how they counted the pumpkins. These simple conversations give children opportunities to practice putting their thoughts into words.

Making their learning experiences positive and enjoyable will hopefully leave them eager to try again! My hope is that they will remember these moments with warmth and joy. There is no need to rush through every worksheet. Let your children take their time, ask questions, color the pictures, and enjoy the process of discovering something new.

As parents, we have so many opportunities to create welcoming spaces for learning in our homes. In our house, the kitchen table is regularly covered with paper, scissors, pens, glue sticks, tape, and all sorts of craft supplies. The creativity seems endless, and the memories around this table keep growing. My children especially love starting with a blank paper and creating whatever comes to mind. I love that something so simple can open the door to so many possibilities.

I would not want it any other way. I planned our kitchen with these different hobbies in mind, making room for a table that serves both as a place to share meals and as a workspace for little hands and grown-ups alike. This is where we meet face to face, talk, laugh, and have fun together. Ordinary moments spent around the table can become memories we treasure for years.

You do not need an elaborate setup to enjoy these pumpkin activities. Print the worksheets, gather a few pencils or crayons, and choose a page that suits your child’s interests and abilities. Count the small pumpkins together, explore the number patterns, or read a story problem aloud. A little encouragement and time together can make the activity feel special.

Turn Pumpkins Into Kindergarten Math Magic This Fall

Create a welcoming space for learning. Clear a spot at your desk, kitchen table, or dining table—or spread the worksheets out on the floor! Print the pages, gather a few pencils or crayons, and begin with an activity that catches your child’s interest. Keep it simple and try not to overthink the process. You can take one page at a time and discover what your child enjoys as you go.

There are many ways to make math fun for your child, but your presence is what makes these moments special. Taking the time to sit beside them, listen to their questions, and encourage their efforts is one of the most meaningful gifts you can offer. Even a short activity can become a lovely opportunity to connect, share a smile, and enjoy learning together.

If you have real pumpkins of different sizes available, invite your child to explore them in a hands-on way. Look closely at the different pumpkin shapes, compare their sizes, and talk about their colors. Which pumpkin is the tallest? Which one is the smallest? Let your child touch the pumpkins, notice their textures, and describe what they see and feel.

You can also add playful materials, such as pumpkin mini erasers for counting or magnetic numbers on your refrigerator. Your child might enjoy arranging the erasers into small groups, matching them to a number, or using them to show an addition problem. These little extras can bring variety to the activities and give children different ways to explore the same math concepts.

Leave room for curiosity and conversation along the way. If your child wants to stop and color a pumpkin, ask a question, or tell you a story, enjoy that moment with them. Give them time to think, try an answer, and ask for help. Your gentle encouragement can help them feel comfortable as they practice something new.

What I hope your child will remember is that you were there: smiling, listening, and responding with a calm and loving voice. A caring parent who made time to sit beside them, enjoy their company, and show interest in their ideas. The worksheets give you something to explore together, while your warmth and attention help make that time meaningful.

She opens her mouth with wisdom, And on her tongue is the law of kindness.
