Evening Snack Ideas

Family time is extremely important. At our home, we don’t usually eat late in the evenings, but Friday and/or Saturday night is usually a time when we relax and enjoy a late-night bite. We like to include something delicious (that everyone enjoys) in front of the TV or at the table, while playing a board game together. These nights are an amazing opportunity to connect and create enjoyable memories together.

During weekends, we can allow ourselves to unwind and enjoy a stress-free, happy time together! Remember, we moms need to have fun regularly, and if we don’t schedule it or make room for it, it simply won’t happen (am I right?). Below, you will find some ideas to make your evenings cozy and warm!

Snack Ideas for Late Summer Nights

In Sweden during summertime, we have bright nights and usually spend time out by the lake and in the sauna. Sometimes we bring healthy snacks along that suit the late summer evenings.

Easy snacks to take with you to the beach:

  • Pancakes with butter and jam
  • Sandwiches with peanut butter and honey
  • Sandwiches with cream cheese and fresh vegetables
  • Whole grains like popcorn
  • Watermelon or any fruit you love

Ideas for Late-Night Snacks During Winter

During winter, we have dark evenings and love sitting in front of the wood stove, cuddling on the sofa. Sometimes we also watch a nature program or other fun shows on TV, with a great snack at hand. I believe these cozy evenings create wonderful memories for us and our kids. I always try to find a healthy option for everything we do, including snacks—something that will also satisfy a sweet tooth.

Snacks for Late Night Indoor Coziness

  • Popcorn fried in olive oil, sprinkled with salt and Engevita Nutritional Yeast Flakes
  • Salted nuts or nuts seasoned with sour cream
  • Nuts with white and dark chocolate
  • Carbonated water mixed with homemade juice (a great way to enjoy a luxury drink with healthier ingredients)
  • Ice cream and hot chocolate
  • Different types of shakes (strawberry shake is a favorite in our home; an option for the grown-ups could be a protein shake)
  • Kale chips
  • Homemade cake
  • Homemade bread with cottage cheese, sliced avocado or vegetables, sprinkled with Herbamare
  • Chips with seasoned sour cream dip
  • Fruit salad

Snacks for Outdoor Life During Winter

  • Homemade pizza slices
  • Dark chocolate
  • Hot chocolate or hot water with honey
  • Sour Cream & Onion rye snacks
  • Sausage with bread

What you choose to include in your evening snack really depends on the kind of snack you want. Savory snacks can be alternated with sweet ones—or a little bit of both can be just as enjoyable. In our family, we’ve sometimes struggled with getting the kids to actually eat the food we make, so the evening snack can be a way to give them some extra calories, which I feel is helpful.

It also depends on where you’ll be eating the snack. Outdoors late in the woods during the cold December months, you might want to bring something warm with you. We have, several times, forgotten to take along a warm drink when it’s cold outside—and that has been a huge missing piece! On rare occasions, we make our own hot chocolate for cozy evenings, melting dark chocolate chips into hot milk on the stove. Adding cream on top makes it restaurant style and turns it into the luxurious hot chocolate dream to enjoy.

A different way to vary your evening snack is to keep a few favorite bread recipes at hand for baking, or enjoy crispbread with tasty toppings. We especially love Finn Crisp, a Finnish brand that offers both natural crispbread and spiced chips in a variety of flavors.

With that being said, I hope you enjoyed this post and found some new ideas for making your family time happy and enjoyable! Feel free to share your own favorite evening snack ideas in the comments below—I’d love to hear them!
