Men’s Knitted Sweater Patterns

Do you love knitting? Then you’ve come to the right place! (If you’re looking for free knitting patterns, take a look at LOPI Design

Otherwise, Welcome to my website! I’m so happy that you’re here! In this blog post, I will share some of the sweaters I’ve knitted for men and boys. I especially love knitting for family and relatives, and seeing them wear the sweaters I’ve made. Making others happy is extremely satisfying. You might know how this feels if you’re one of those who love to knit!

As I write this, I’m actually knitting a sweater for my son. This summer, I knitted a dress for my daughter with beautiful patterns, which made him want a sweater as well. He chose the colors, we ordered the yarn, and then I started knitting. I can’t wait to see him in his cozy sweater.

I had taken a break from knitting for a long time (while having babies), but hopefully, I’m fully back now. Starting again, I’ve been trying to choose a quick knit, yet something suitable for advanced beginners, which gives me a start that’s not too hard and not too easy.

I’ve mostly been using LOPI, which is Icelandic wool that’s perfect for warm, cozy sweaters for the entire family. Lopi Design has many beautiful patterns to choose from. I’ve knitted many sweaters using their patterns. For one of my boys, for example, I knitted a V-neck sweater, which was fun and challenging at the same time. Other patterns with zipper closures I’ve wanted to try but haven’t done yet. LOPI Design has also many different beautiful stitch patterns in their instructions. I’m personally a big fan of their pattern collection!

Deciding the Size

If you’re unsure what size to knit for your boy or husband, you can measure their arms, chest, and waist. The instructions usually indicate how long the long-sleeved sweater should be, and then you can measure them to ensure it will fit. A teenager, for example, might need a men’s size XS instead of a child’s size. Sizes S can also be a good choice for teenagers or young adults.

Making sure you knit the right size is very important because several years ago, I knitted a sweater for my husband that turned out to be too small. It was a bit discouraging since it took me many hours to make. I ended up selling it to my brother instead, so it didn’t feel like a complete waste of time. This is why I’m addressing the importance of choosing the right size. Therefore, check the sizes chest measurements to ensure a proper fit.

You can also measure a fitting sweater they’re already wearing. Some men have longer arms, for example, which means you may need to knit the sleeves of the sweater, longer than the instructions suggest.

You should also be mindful of how tightly you knit. The tighter you knit, the denser the fabric will be. You may then need to reconsider if you’re knitting the right size for your hubby or child. But it’s best if you can knit loosely enough (but not too loose, haha) that the fabric will fit well.

What You Need to Knit a Classic Long-Sleeved Cardigan Sweater

  • Sweater patterns: Either find free patterns online or buy beautiful patterns from my favorite designer, LOPI Design. The sweater pattern usually begins and ends with stitch ribbing, with plain knitting in between.
  • Circular needles: I usually use two different sizes, with a shorter length when knitting the upper part of the chest. Using circular needles makes it easier to maintain the row repeat, especially when working on a seamless sweater pattern.
  • Yarn: You can knit sweaters from different types of yarn, for example, bulky yarn for thicker sweaters and worsted weight yarn for thinner ones.
  • Knitting needles: The same applies to knitting needles as to circular needles. You’ll need two sizes, matching the sizes of your circular needles.

I hope you have a happy knitting experience!
